Self Made Cafts: Paper vase, Coin box

Today wanna share with you on how we can make a nice coin box (or you can call it a coin container) with stuffs like gifts wrappings or glued on wall papers, laces and used shuttle casing.
You can get these things easily :) you can even use the cylinder of the toilet roll if you want to...

You can even put flowers in the casing made :)

This is hoe the Shuttle Casing look like.. We'll call it the Cylinder :D
If your parents plays a lot of Badminton... you should have a lot of these at home lying around some where... waiting to be recycled and reused again....
below is how a glued on wall papers looks like..
I'm sure I do not need to show you how a wrapping paper looks like.. right?
As you can see the other side of the paper is sticky so you can stick your paper onto the Cylinder evenly and nicely.. just wrap around the cylinder until you cover all the surface and that's it!!
If you are using wrapping papers, just do the same thing but put double sided tape on the edge of the papers so it will stick from one end to the other.
All done on the most difficult part :)

aaahhhh... i love these laces!!! I got it from Sabah long time ago...

You can get these at any tailor shops or shops that sales Malay wedding stuffs..

some place that sells ribbons may have some nice laces too...

You can even use ribbons to replace the decor on the cylinder if you want to :)

Just use your creative side to decor the cylinder and in the end, the cylinder does comes with 2 cover... so you can use the cover to cover the bottom part of the cylinder and on the other side, cut a rectangle shape 'hole' so you can insert your coins inside :)
Hope you enjoyed this sessions :)
Do email me should you need any further explanation and if you have any other ideas.

Gaya Street: Ceramics

Another specialty of Sabah is it's Ceramic art..

A bit different from Sarawak's Ceramic arts.. Sabah produces bigger ceramic art compared to Sarawak.. so, its a bit heavy :P

Its more of carving and not paintings.. In Bangkok, the ceramic there is mostly hand painted..

As you can see there are different shapes and sizes :)

But all at least medium size.. no Size s here... all M and above...

Some are very useful too. :) not only it can be a gift from Borneo but also something you can use for decorating your new house, and keep you flowers fresh and watered :)

there are big Ceramic producers in Sabah as well and the shop is just next to Jalan Tuaran Road :) Do let me know should you need to get further info on the place where Big and Huge ceramics can be found... (of course they have small ones too and lots of em')

Gaya Street: Pearls

In Gaya Street or in Sabah, it is famous for its beautiful pearls :) if you come here and not getting one you have really missed in the most valuable natural gems in Sabah..
Pearls here are cheap and nice.. Its even the same as the one sold in KLCC which cost you about MYR 400 to MYR 700 per necklace.. Here you perhaps can get it for MYR 50. (in 2008 ya.)
Of course you ill need to bargain a bit to get a better price :)
Should you buy more, more discounts can be given lar.. here are some examples how they are being sold in Gaya Street.

The pearls are being showcase on ranks and its very eye catching...
Hand bracelets can be as cheap as MYR 25 to MYR 30 per piece.
In Sabah, the pearls can be in many different colours: Purple, black, white, off-white or even pink :) Very attractive... Some necklaces even include mixed colours for you.
They come in many sizes.. the bigger they are the more expensive it will get.
Bare in mind that there are 2 types of Pearls: Fresh and Sea water pearls..
Fresh water pearls are cheaper and its not smooth, its shiny but the surface is a bit uneven.
As for Sea pearls, its 10 times more expensive then the fresh water ones as its more difficult to come by.. and of course its more beautiful and smoother...
Some Gems and semi-precious stones can also be found here in Gaya Street :0
can you see the ones in the box containers? Those will be sold in a more expensive price as it is (as they call it) premier gems and pearls..
To me, as long as its real pearls, its good enough ahahaha...

below is some of my own pearls :)
the one at the bottom is a fresh water pearl... big though but not too expensive..

This one is also Fresh water pearls... as you can see closely that the shape of the pearls are not even and this is normal for fresh water pearls...

here is a closer view :)

Shall share with you the Sea water pearl in my later post.. as i have not taken any photos of it yet :) until then...

Hand Crafts from China

During Chinese New year, Mid Valley held some Exhibition on China made products on hand crafts and stuffs... I came across this wonderful work of Art which uses crystals to make a drawing of the 12 Chinese Zodiac Signs..
~~~~~~
It's an Ancient work of Art from the Ching Dynasty according to the owner (which i don't remember her name.) And the cost for one plate (one animal sign) is RM 150, because her company is the only company in China that produces this Art; Hand made and heated up on high degree fire to produce the kind of glittering result.
~~~~~~
She was telling me that good workers are hard to find for her company because the person making this work of Art must like what they do, it must come from the interest and the love for the Art itself, if not the product will not be in high quality...

As you can see I was closely observing and examining the plate... I am unsure what to call the Product.. Perhaps they will show it next year CNY at the same place :)

I got myself 2 plates for my parent in law during Chinese new year :) Lovely huh?

I hope everytime they look at the beautiful work of Art From China they will think of us... It's not practical I know, but its something special.. Like an Art from the Ancient China that we do not know about... that could have been lost...
